Attendance

Children at Hermitage love coming to school so our attendance is high – each year we celebrate scores of children who haven’t missed a single day of schooling!

Children love coming to school because of:

  • the strength of their relationships with staff & peers
  • our exciting, engaging & relevant curriculum
  • our teachers’ understanding of what great teaching & learning looks like
  • our high expectations. We set a target of 97% attendance

Attendance is key to every pupil’s success at school. Quite simply, if you don’t come to school regularly and on time, you are not going to be able to make the most of the rich curriculum experience that we offer you.

Our aim is to promote high attendance so that our pupils achieve well at school. Regular attendance is also crucial for children's belonging, making friends and developing good relationships with school adults.

We are committed to:

  • ensuring every pupil has access to full-time education to which they are entitled
  • promoting good attendance and reducing absence, in particular persistent absence
  • acting early to understand the reasons for poor attendance and address patterns of absence
  • supporting parents to perform their legal duty of ensuring their children of compulsory school age attend regularly

Any family whose child’s attendance falls below 90% will be asked to come into school to discuss the reasons for the poor attendance with the express aim of getting children into school more regularly. Persistent absentees risk being fined by the local authority.

You can read the school attendance policy here:

When should pupils arrive?

The school gates open each morning at 8.50am. Classrooms open at 8:55am and lessons begin at 9:00am.

At the end of the day, the school gates open at 3:25pm and children are dismissed at 3:30pm.

When should I keep my child at home?

For most minor ailments and illnesses, children should attend school as normal. We can monitor them in school and make contact with you to keep you updated and let you know if they need to stay at home.

For some illnesses, it is necessary to keep your child at home. You can find more information about these on ‘Is my child too ill for school?’ page on the NHS website.

If you’re not sure about bringing your child to school, please reach out to us for advice and guidance via phone or email at hpsadmin@letta.org.uk.
