Getting Involved

There are so many reasons to get stuck in to what’s going on in school & so many ways to do it. We know for example that the more involved parents are in school life, the better their children tend to do in school.

How can I get involved?

If you enjoy reading and working with children then becoming a parent reader may be just for you!

Parent readers work with individuals and groups to share stories and hear children read across the school. Our children significantly benefit from these partnerships, where they make progress with their reading but also, importantly, look forward to their special time in the week where they get to share a book with an adult.

There will always be a member of staff responsible for looking after you & making sure you are welcomed & inducted properly. To ensure the safeguarding of Hermitage’s children, all regular volunteers will be required to undertake a Disclosure & Barring Service check (DBS) prior to starting work in the school, or be supervised by a member of staff.

You will be amazed at the difference you can make. If you are interested in becoming a parent reader, please reach out to us by emailing hpsadmin@letta.org.uk

People in strong communities volunteer. We would love more volunteers in our school; they do an amazing job. You might be a parent or perhaps come from the local business community; you might be looking for work experience or just want to give something back. If so, come and talk to us about volunteering.

You could volunteer in a number of different ways. Depending on what you’d like to offer, you might:

  • Work with children who need a little extra help
  • Help to prepare resources
  • Support the development and maintenance of our grounds
  • Support at school events, including school trips

We offer a range of courses and workshops throughout the year designed to help parents support their child’s learning and development at home. These include:

  • Parent welcome meetings
  • Phonics and early reading
  • Early numeracy
  • Admissions (both for EYFS and secondary school), including drop-in support sessions
  • Online safety

For more information about upcoming workshops, please call or email hpsadmin@letta.org.uk

We are fortunate to have a committed parent group who have set up an active PTA that works alongside the school to host a range of fundraising events throughout the year and strengthen the partnerships in our school community.
