Lunches

Hermitage serves hot, nutritious (and award-winning!) meals for lunch everyday with meat, fish and vegetarian options available. All food is halal. A choice of fresh fruit and salads is always available. Drinking water is provided in the lunch hall and in the playground throughout break times.

We have dedicated staff on hand in our lunch hall to ensure that pupils are appropriately supported with eating their lunch increasingly independently. We also have pupils who serve as lunchtime ambassadors; helping pupils to make healthy choices in the foods that they eat and foster a friendly & pleasant atmosphere.

If you are receiving Income Support, your child is entitled to a free school meal & our school is also entitled to receive additional funding known as the Pupil Premium.

To find out whether your child qualifies for free school meals (and additional funding for the school) – you can now check online here.

Free School Meals Application – paper copy of claim forms are available from our school office, One Stop Shops or by telephoning the benefits service on 020 7364 5000. If you are in any doubt, please pop into the office and ask to speak to someone.

Packed lunches

Pupils may bring a healthy packed lunch to eat in school – though, in practice, very few do. Packed lunches must be suitable for a growing child; sweets and chocolate are not appropriate. Drinking water is provided for all pupils at the table.

Packed lunches should include:

  • A sandwich or bread roll with low-fat sandwich fillings, such as lean meat, including turkey, fish (e.g. tuna or salmon), cottage cheese, Edam, Mozzarella. Always try to add a little salad to the sandwich or roll.
  • Some fruit or vegetables, such as bananas, apples, pears, dried fruit, tomatoes, carrots, cucumber…
  • A low-fat cheese, yoghurt (preferably sugar-free) or rice pudding to ensure that your child gets enough calcium.
  • A bottle of water for your child to drink.

Packed lunches should not include:

  • Nuts or seeds (we are a nut-free school)
  • Sweets or chocolate
  • Sugary drinks

All waste and uneaten food is returned in the lunch box so that parents know what has been eaten by their child.

Children who bring packed lunch will still be provided with the choice of a free fruit or vegetable snack everyday.
